The Defenestration series addresses the issue of human-landscape relationship. One of the biggest reasons why we have such trouble solving the climate crisis is in the fact that we, as humans, don’t really place ourselves in the context of the natural landscape. We are just “standing” next to it. We say “let’s go into nature”, implying that we are currently in a city, so technically we are “outside” nature. This is a faulty way of viewing the landscape around yourself as this leads to us seeing the problems of climate crisis as something happening on the side, we don’t feel immediate affect of it on ourselves. The Defenestration series erases the boundary between human and landscape, it places the painting’s subjects into the landscape, morphing their shapes with it.
